When you are around the Shannon region in Co. Clare, Ireland, you have to visit Bunratty Castle. This has been restored to perfection and they hold banquets there every night during the Summer where someone is always thrown in to the “dungeon”, unless they can sing a song or recite a poem! The park surrounding the castle is absolutely charming with little thatched cottages dotted around. During the Summer they also have “Irish Nights” where you can enjoy Irish Stew and watch the Irish dancers go through their routine – you might even be asked to join them!! There is so much so see and do, you could spend a whole day there! The world famous “Durty Nellys” is right next to it and you could spend the rest of the evening there just eating and drinking in the atmosphere! There is normally a session happening every night where local musicians normally play the fiddle and are accompanied by someone on the piano. Down the road from the pub, they make Mead in the little family outlet and that is worth paying a visit to as well! All in all, the whole area is a very pleasant way to spend the day and lose yourself in the ‘olde’ world atmosphere – something we have forgotten existed at one time!!!
