If you are planning a break in County Durham, I would definitely recommend Brunswick House in the quaint village of Middleton-in-Teesdale.
The house dates back to 1760 and has been lovingly restored by the owners. Our en-suite room (with bath) was very comfortable & there were nice touches such as homemade shortbread biscuits on the hospitality tray, a fridge with fresh milk & bottled water each day, luxurious toiletries & bathrobes.
The host, Andrew, was very friendly & welcoming & the breakfasts were beautifully cooked, with local produce used wherever possible.
There is a small car park behind the property & nearby street parking & the B & B has the benefit of free wifi.
There are lots of great attractions nearby too – High Force Waterfall (5 miles), Raby Castle (11 miles), Bowes Museum (8 miles) & many wonderful walks.
