We spent a delightful couple of hours visiting Broadlands on their extended tour. The web site said there are no tea rooms, gift shops etc. the toilets facilities are located in the car park. Really refreshing visit as a result.
The house has very limited opening hours weekday afternoons and for a few weeks an extended tour is offered. This is because Lady Brabourne is in residence.
We had a superb guide who was very friendly and knowledgable and took us round room by room explaining it’s history including previous owners including Lord Mountbatten and Lord Palmerston. It is also famous for hosting the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on their honeymoon and more recently by Charles and Diana on theirs.
The building is very much lived in and it was great to see the mix of modern and old.
All the volunteers we met were very welcoming. I really think the tour was the right length just over 90 minutes so you were not over burdened with information.
Not sure the extended tour was worth the difference from the base price as only 1 extra room was visited. However this did not distract us from a very pleasant visit.
