Reasons for trip

Feeling like getting away from it for a few days, hubby and I had always meant to re-visit Bristol after spending a lovely weekend there with our (grown up) children some years ago, so decided Bristol it was. Our choice of hotel was The Bristol opposite the water front, chosen because it’s where we stayed by chance on our last visit, so thought we’d give it another try. We were not disappointed. We arrived early and were quite prepared to just leave our bags at reception and go off to have lunch somewhere until our room was ready. The hotel is modern and well maintained. We were greeted very warmly by the male receptionist, who apologised that the room wasn’t ready but he would find us a room that was. I cheekily asked if he could find us a room overlooking the water, to which he replied ‘I’m sorry but those are premier rooms’ which are obviously more expensive, but he smiled and said ‘ let’s see what we can find’. He upgraded us to a premier room at no extra cost, then gave us a bottle of water each to take out with us! We took our bags up to our room which was lovely and we had a great view of everything happening on and along side the water. We were just unpacking when there was a knock at the door. I opened it to find a very pleasant lady who introduced herself as housekeeping and asked if we were happy with our room and was there anything else we needed. We’ve stayed in some lovely hotels all around the world but have not been treated as well as at the Bristol. We booked into the hotel restaurant on the evening only to find the staff there exactly the same, cheerful, helpful and attentive. Later in the bar the manageress a lovey Spanish lady took our orders and bought them to our seats, enquired how our day had been and asked what we planned to do the next day. We said we weren’t sure yet and she sat with us and told us of several things to do and see that she could recommend. It seemed that although this hotel was busy every member of staff had time for us and were all courteous and helpful. We had a brilliant few days and will certainly be back and can thoroughly recommend The Bristol.
