This is a perfect film for the mature audience! The title tells you what to expect and the trailer actually reflects the action. A Great opportunity for mature actresses, so rare until fairly recently especially in America.
All four women are in their 60s, clearly wealthy, meeting every month to reflect on the book they have read but mainly to drink vast quantities of wine. Mostly bemoaning the lack of intimate activity, except for Jane Fonda whose choice of book for next time is 50 Shades of Grey – brilliant reactions to this choice!
Needless to say, this is the start of something new for all of them. We loved the judge’s experience of ‘spanx’ underwear, including in the back of her car, and the wife’s tap dance to Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love”! The telling part was how daughters treated their mother as if she was so old she was a danger to others if she drove, and they kindly offered to renovate the basement complete with walk-in shower so that she could live with them. This despite her growing love affair with the very handsome pilot.
I know it is an often-used phrase, but it really is a feel-good, warm and funny film.
