Reasons for trip

Every year after the Christmas season a number of London, Ontario restaurants participate in “LondonLicious”:http://londonlicious.ca/. They provide a three course tasting menu for lunch and/or dinner for a set price. It’s a great opportunity to give a new place a try. You can preview their special menus on the website ahead of time. When booking a table just identify if you want the LondonLicious menu or whether you want to order from the regular menu.

Earlier this year a friend and I tried out “Bocconcini’s”:http://www.bocconcinilondon.ca/ lunch menu. This eatery is on the west end of town – almost out of town, so much so we almost missed it. On the very end of Boler Road, it’s in a small strip mall in a new development.

It was quiet in the restaurant for lunch so our waitress was not rushed off her feet. For the set price of $20 my friend chose the Arancini for her starter – risotto, roasted butternut squash, stuffed with mozzarella cheese with marinara sauce. I opted for a garden salad which sadly wasn’t as fresh as it could have been.

We both chose the chicken parmesan Panini for our mains and they came with house made potato crisps that were too salty. The chicken was quite good though.

Although the menu stated one of the two dessert options was a lemon tart, they did not have any. I had my heart set on it but the chocolate cake with cherry sauce was a delicious substitute.

All in all it was a reasonable price for lunch and I’ll be looking to try another new restaurant next year during this festival.
