A typical black and white pub on the main coast road along Cardigan Bay, between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron and directly opposite the bus stops, the black Lion is a great stop-off point as they serve food all day (from 12.00). It has its own car park, but as there is a bus every half-hour or hour depending where you want to get to, it is perfect for a late lunch on the way home.
So complete with shopping bags, we hopped off the bus around 3.00pm and indulged in lunch. Well, be warned – the portions are substantial! This time we both went for the same thing (which is unusual) but it sounded good – chicken and mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce plus chips and salad. An excellent choice as this has to be the best creamy garlic-mushroom sauce we have ever had, with the added bonus of melt-in-the-mouth chicken pieces. It even looked good, the sauce presented in an individual cast-iron dish.
We struggled to finish it all and could not even look at the dessert menu – although the deserts served to the next table looked glorious! So, at around £12 each plus a drink, this was well-worth a visit. And we were able to dash across the road to catch the next bus and continue our journey, so what more can you ask for?
