A new gallery uncovering the fascinating story of the Staffordshire Hoard is now open at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
This is housed in a new gallery, paid in large by the Heritage Lottery Fund, visitors can see this incredible treasure and learn about its Anglo-Saxon history and the ongoing conservation techniques used to unlock its secrets.
Hundreds of pieces from the Hoard are on show and you can see learn how the designs of the objects can be linked to many regions across Europe and see how they were made. The museum was almost empty when we visited and was a very pleasant experience this was in stark contrast to looking at the Sutton Hoe displays of similar items which were obscured by hordes of visitors.
Now has to be the best time to visit the site as funding cuts may soon restrict the opening hours of the venue. It’s a fascinating display and well worth the visit
