Reasons for trip

The booking office, where you can choose from a variety of trips (some actually land on the Farne islands), is located in Seahouses next to the Tourist Information Office. There's also a car park & toilets across the road. We chose the Inner Farne trip which is 90 mins on board the M.V. Glad Tidings V. As we set off for the bird sanctuary the on board commentary kept us informed of what was going on around us, identifying the various species of bird we were seeing. As you approach, as well as seeing the rocks covered in Guillemots, Terns and Seagulls, it looks like the rock tops are covered in dirty snow. When you get a little closer though your nose tells you that it's not snow! Fortunately, whilst being quite a spectacle, nesting doesn't start in earnest for a couple of weeks. After that you will need to wear hard hats if you choose the trip that lands on the island as the birds will peck your head to protect their eggs. The highlight of the trip for me was seeing the Atlantic & Grey seals basking on the rocks in the sunshine. Another popular attraction is Longstone Lighthouse, made famous by Grace Darling in the 1838 rescue, with her father, of the Forfarshire paddle steamer survivors. We really enjoyed the trip, highly recommended.
