Walking

We made a last minute decision to have a short break in Cornwall and booked 4 nights at The Restormel Lodge Hotel in Lostwithiel. We booked direct with the hotel as it was slightly cheaper than other booking sites. Our room was in an annexe and was clean, well-equipped and not too small. The bathroom was excellent, with a good shower, but no bath. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well. Breakfast was average, but well cooked. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, as were all the staff we encountered. We had two evening meals in the hotel, one in the bar and another in the restaurant. The food was ok but the restaurant lacked atmosphere. Lostwithiel is a good base for a holiday, being roughly half way between the north and south coasts. The town is ancient and very interesting, with several decent places to eat out. We had an enjoyable day trip to St Ives on the train, the station is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. It is also a few miles from Lanhydrock, a National Trust property well worth a visit. On reflection, I would recommend this hotel for a short break.
