Two years ago I visited Perpignan on business and stay at the Mercure Perpignan Centre. It was nothing special. I noted that the Hotel Windsor just across the Boulevard Thomas Wilson looked very well cared for. So when I booked a short break in Perpignan with my wife I chose the Windsor.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is clean and well decorated throughout. Staff were extremely helpful. On the day before departure a French Air Traffic Controllers strike caused the cancellation of our return flight. Although I had booked alternative flights I was concerned that these, too, might be delayed or cancelled. My schoolboy French was not adequate for me to check on the situation. So on the evening before our flights, the duty receptionist was very helpful. He checked websites and ‘phoned both the airport and Air France to establish that there was a strong likelihood that our alternative flights would run on time.
The cold buffet breakfast was fine. It seemed that no one had touched the small bain marie of hot English breakfast so I left it to stew in peace.
Our superior room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and a wide range of facilities were provided, including a coffee making tray, which is unusual in France. We had just one niggle- there was an offset in the aircon control. To achieve a pleasant 18C in the room, I had to set the control at 22C.
Overall we liked the Windsor and will certainly return in future.
