A life`s ambition had been achieved I was going to see Elton John at the new Headland outdoor arena in Blackpool. One of my childhood heroes and could not contain my excitement we set of on a gloomy and overcast Saturday afternoon, for the short journey from Liverpool to Blackpool, having taken pot luck and booked an hotel on the internet the previous night. The wind stengthened as we found the hotel and booked in, failing to realise that it was at least two miles from the venue! However help was at hand as the owners Paul & Babs could not have been more accommadating, we checked in whilst they searched for tram times before showing us to a small, but well furnished and clean room. The concert began with looming grey clouds and Elton perfomed in his usual flamboyant and vibrant manner until he announced that due to increasing gale force winds, he had to ask us all to leave as our safety, and his, could not be guaranteed!! We braved the high winds and struggled back hungry and tired. No food was available at the hotel but Paul recommended a chinese takeaway, which he ordered and provided cutlery and we enjoyed in the comfort of our room. Breakfast met the high standards, and we departed feeling that the trip had been somewhat brightened by our hotel choice, and the sun came out, a bit late.
