Bankside is an area I came across whilst my daughter was studying down there on a Saturday. I went down every Saturday and potted whilst waiting for her. The first thing I visited is Borough Market. What an amazing place, with food and drink from all over the world, the senses and taste buds (as they are always giving samples out on the stalls) go on overload mode. I think my favourite stalls were the different cakes and bread stalls and Turkish delight, ooo I’m there now! Walking through the market you come out at Southwark Cathedral which is beautiful. The nativity scene when I was there had a very modern twist (lots of blocks of wood with the nativity names on them) but it was very effective. Definitely worth a look round although I think you now have to pay to take photos! Once past there you are on to a pedestrian only part with medieval narrow roads and pavements which takes you to the river. Here you will find The Globe theatre, Tate Modern (nice toilets in there, just saying)!, Golden Hinde, Clink Prison Museum to name a few – some of these you can do two for one entries if you go by train. There are lots of eating places for all tastes from fancy restaurants to lovey coffee houses Watch the queues form at Monmouth coffee house, at certain times it is just so popular.
