The idea of an art installation on a public beach conjures up ideas of some kind of temporary seaside art. That idea couldn’t be further away from the truth than this amazing spectacle.
There’s nothing showy about this, it is simply dozens of faceless, timeless statues, seemingly randomly spaced along the beach, looking out to ‘another place’. I wish I could explain the feeling of tranquillity and timelessness I got from this.
I visited on a very wet and windy day but suddenly, standing below one of the statues, gazing out in the same direction, I felt completely at peace.
This is an attraction you could visit dozens of times and each time you would take something new away from it. Don’t expect bells and whistles. Don’t expect showy a spectacle. But do expect to feel something.
