Amble is a small fishing town in Northumberland, with a very pleasant harbour and Marina, but the best place is the wonderful High Street, which has just won an award for the best High Street in Britain. It is a real trip down memory lane to walk down this narrow short street with shops of every sort, with small frontages, and offering the best of local produce and services. Of particular note is a PARRT shop which looks like a smart up market outfitter, but is in fact a Charity shop (helps find homes for animals), and the window dresser is brilliant. But the best bit of all – which ever shop you go into, you are greeted with a smile, and made to feel very special – these Amble folk are the salt of the earth and deserve their success. We love our visits to Amble, can buy any and everything we need, and can enjoy a wonderful coffee/ tea/lunch at one of the several excellent restaurants or tea-shops. Sea Salt is worth a mention, and a visit, as is the restaurant in the harbour, for a special lunch or dinner, but the tea shops are also very good. The Pods around the harbour offer a unique and interesting array and choice of goods, and a wander round the harbour is uplifting. Well worth a visit!
