This little French town a little way from Christchurch is well worth a visit. As you approach, the views become more and more beautiful. Parking there isn’t easy and you don’t need more than 2/3 hours. Nice little cafes where you can sit outside. Lots of slightly different little shops to wander round.
We stayed just outside Akaroa in a delightful b&b called The Olive Grove with fab views over the water. We sat outside with a cup of tea and a muffin and enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine. Perfect! Both rooms are upstairs though so not good for anyone with mobility problems.
We also did a harbour cruise with the Black Cat company and saw many dolphins, penguins and fur seals. Worth doing. Free tea and coffee which is a bonus!
Just outside Akaroa is The Giant’s House which I will review separately.
