We enjoyed our stay at the Aegean Gate in October. Despite having wet weather for most of our stay, we found the owners Gary and Rory very helpful and considerate. They provide a map and gave us plenty of advice on places to visit and cafes/restaurants in which to eat – always good to have some recommendations. The walk into Bodrum is really pleasant, mostly along quiet coast road, and takes about 20 minutes but longer on the way back as the last part is up a steep hill. We stayed in one of the top-floor suites with a separate living room and a spacious balcony with wonderful views towards the sea and over the local area. The bedroom is quite small and at the back (no view). The hotel has a swimming pool with no shallow end (access via ladder), a shady breakfast area, a small outdoor bar and lots of stepped terraces with loungers on which to relax and take in the views. The rooms on the ground floor have kitchens and are more suitable for guests with disabilities – but lack the views of the upper suites. The taxi service is reliable and reasonable [Euro 5 to centre of town] and there is a taxi rank approx 200 hundred metres – reasonably level walking – from the hotel. Further down the hill from the hotel you can pick up a local bus to the centre of Bodrum. Aegean Gate is beautifully maintained and comfortable (no lift). The owners are great pet lovers and look after a number of cats and dogs which add character to a stay there. The owners organised our transfers from/to the airport which is recommended as it was competitively priced, on time and very comfortable. The only sticking point is that they do not take credit cards but there are plenty of ATMs in town.
