There aren’t many places to stop on the A17, especially for coaches. The Farm Shop is on the eastbound carriageway and has a large car park.
It is a large and pleasant cafe area with oil cloth covered tables, brick walls covered with pictures and wooden beams with china plates on them. It can seat up to 500 people but was very quiet on a cold and wet Saturday morning in February.
There is a large self service counter with a good selection of pre-wrapped sandwiches and cakes. My slice of rich fruit cake was C1.75 and was very good. They also offer a range of hot food, again at very reasonable prices.
There is a large barn area which is the farm shop. This had huge string bags of onions, swedes, potatoes, cabbages… as well a good choice of fruit and other vegetables. Quality looked good and prices were very good with huge cabbages selling for 50p.
Next to it is a smaller Flower shop, although the flowers were all plastic. This sold a selection of stone garden animals as well as wooden ducks in wellingtons. There were preserves and pickles aswell as biscuits and sweets. There was a good range of “The Real Norfolk Cakes” although looking at the ingredients they are mass produced rather than ‘hoe made’. I bought a stem ginger cake which had huge chunks of crystallised ginger but the sponge was disappointing.
There are plenty of toilets which are modern and very clean.
This isn’t a ‘shopping experience’ like many Farm Shops, but is a place to go if you want to stock up on good cheap veg. The cafe is pleasant and it is worth considering as a stop on the A17. Across the road on the west bound carriageway is the Anglia Motel which also has a large cafe and farm shop.
