Returning from conference in London in June, it was too late to get a connecting bus for the last 20 miles, so I booked a room at the Pier Hotel in Aberystwyth for £60 even though it was so close to home!
We actually remember it as a pub but it only offers accommodation now. Just a short walk from the pier and beach in Aberystwyth on Cardigan Bay, west Wales, it is an ideal base for exploring the area. If you have time to stay longer, this is a central point for bus and train services (some more reliable than others) as well as the steam train to Devil’s Bridge.
The room was not very big but was newly refurbished, clean and fresh looking with a sea-side theme – natural wood furniture, lovely comfy bed, and a modern shower room. There is a code to enter the building, texted to you the day before your stay. Unlike some other code-entry hotels we have experienced, this was easy to use. There is no lift so stairs up to second floor room, and no breakfast is included.
It was a good choice and I will certainly choose it again if I have to stay locally, such as for a theatre stopover.
