Lund is an attractive small village of brick houses around the green with an old cross and pump. The church is set on a slight rise above the green.
It is a simple stone building with west tower and buttressed nave and chancel with a small cross at the ends. There is no information in the church and little on the web. The building dates from the C13th and the tower is later. The bell windows have three carved heads. The church was restored in the mid C19th.
Entry is through the south door with an inscription painted above it. Inside, an arcade of round pillars with pointed arches separate nave and north aisle. Windows in the nave and side aisle are plain glass, flooding the building with light. The bright crimson carpet adds a splash of colour.
The font is Norman with round arches and carvings of figures. It has been whitewashed which masks details of the carving. Near it is an old pillar poor box.
The pulpit is very plain with wooden panels.
The stained glass east window came from Langtoft Church and has images of the Nativity and Crucifixion. On either side are large painted boards with the ten commandments. On the wall below is wooden panelling. There is a narrow band of carving along the top of the altar.
On the floor to the right of the altar is a very eroded effigy of Edmund Thwaite, Lord of the Manor and Commissioner of the Peace for the East Riding, who died in 1500. To the left is the effigy of his wife, Joan, who predeceased him.
On the wall above is a fragment of a tomb slab and a very elaborate monument to the Reverend John Blanchard who was Vicar of the parish and responsible for the restoration of the church.
This is a very pleasant village church. There are a lot of churches in this part of Yorkshire with better Norman fonts. It is worth a quick look if passing. The church is open daily and there is plenty of parking around the green. There are steps up from the gate into the churchyard. There is flat access into the church.
