This month’s cook book and favourite dessert request on Silver Travel Advisor got me thinking about strudel. There is a restaurant in downtown London that I have walked by many times but not gone in so the other day I decided to check it out and have some strudel. “Marienbad Restaurant”:http://www.marienbad.ca is on a side street and has a definite Austrian feel to the exterior. The building hails from the 1850s and wouldn’t look amiss in a mountain village. The menu is a blend of European foods from the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria.
My friend and I both opted to try the schnitzel special that night – stuffed with brie and spinach. It was delicious and came served with lovely potatoes and a medley of al dente vegetables. Knowing I wanted to try the apple strudel, I did not eat my whole entre and took the rest home for another meal. Although I wasn’t sitting on a balcony eating cherry strudel with the Tyrolean Alps as my view, the memory I posted for my favourite dessert, the apple strudel was very tasty. I’ll definitely be back to try out some other items on the menu. I have my eye on the chicken liver pate…
There is also a pub (Chaucer’s) in the same building where we mistakenly started out as we went in the wrong door. There is on street parking out front and on the streets surrounding the restaurant which is free after 6:00 pm.
