When in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne recently, we stopped in at Queens Cafe for lunch. It is a small café on a corner of Queen Street and Akenside Hill underneath the Tyne Bridge and is a lovely old establishment. As it was after the lunch crowd, we practically had the place to ourselves. The staff were very friendly and our sandwiches were made fresh. For £16 four of us had hot drinks, two had bacon on a bun, one a BLT, and I had lentil soup with cheese and pickle on a bun. It was very good and plenty of food – I couldn’t eat it all.
If you have limited mobility, note that the facilities are downstairs – that’s the only reason I didn’t give this cafe a 5 rating. There is also another room downstairs for seating if you arrive and upstairs is full.
