I recently stayed at this hotel while in Peterborough. It proved challenging to find, even with SAT nav but we finally made it. The area is right off the motorway (A1) and is full of strip malls, restaurants and a new housing development (Hampton Hargate) of which we inadvertently had a tour. We had two family rooms which were very comfortable except for two items: there are no phones in the rooms as they expect everyone to have a cell phone; and the rooms were quite warm. We were there in May so the weather was not exceptionally warm – it was definitely cooler outside. I was travelling from Canada and do not have an international cell phone and did not feel completely comfortable in the room without a phone. My room had a double bed and a divan for lounging on to watch television. The room was quite spacious so a family would definitely not feel cramped even with three or four people and suitcases.
Some people the next morning were getting a refund on their room because a coach party had stayed overnight and there had been some people partying and running around and causing a fair bit of noise. We however did not hear a thing. Usually when there is a coach party staying the hotel has extra staff on at night to keep an eye on things. They were unaware there was a coach party because people had booked separately instead of as a group. As a result there was only one night manager on who was not able to manage the desk and put a stop to the partying. The morning staff handled the situation very professionally with some cranky guests who did not get much sleep.
We had the bed and breakfast booking and the hot breakfast was very good. They did not put too much food out at once but kept replenishing the trays so it was always fresh. Oatmeal and omelets can be ordered fresh from the kitchen. The coffee station provided the now expected variety of lattes and cappuccinos and the fresh baking was delicious – I am partial to pain chocolat. There was also a good selection of cold cereals, fruit and yogurt.
A family room with bed and breakfast for next May is currently selling for $135C on Booking.com or £82.50 on their website. Children under 16 eat free at breakfast. The parking is free and there is a Brewers Fayre restaurant. We walked along a path by the inn to a Mexican restaurant (Chiquito) for a late supper but there were also others within walking distance.
