VisitGuernsey is offering a short break to a lucky winner, and their partner, to be taken at any time up to December 2020, subject to availablity. You’ll be flown to the island for two nights with 4-star hotel accommodation (and breakfast), along with your own hire car. This offers a wonderful opportunity to explore Guernsey that has a riveting history, going back to William the Conqueror right up to WWII and the German Occupation.
Read the book or watch the film Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society to get a real sense of how the remaining islanders were affected. The remaining fortifications and underground bunkers tell their own stories too.
Guernsey also has great artistic connections too, with Victor Hugo living there for 15 years and Renoir falling under the spell of the island during his month’s sojourn in 1883, when he painted Moulin Huet in many guises. May 2020 sees the Literary Festival on Guernsey and the Performing Arts Festival on Alderney too. The Eat Drink and Be Local Food Festival celebrates local produce and producers, with great tastings and the Spring and Autumn Walking Festivals are becoming very popular as well.
This prize is a real opportunity to discover an enchanting island, close to the UK, but with a different, enriching flavour.
