Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a landscape gardens and glasshouses, just minutes from the city centre. It is an ideal place to visit with grandchildren, as it has large grassy areas for them to race around and a children’s play area. There are lots of interesting paths and borders to explore, some areas looking quite secretive. The glass houses have exotic plants and a pond with huge fish. There is a walk through bird house with parrots and parakeets, and a butterfly house (open in the summer only).
The Pavillion tea room has snacks and ice cream, but is rather expensive. The gift shop is well stocked with items to tempt every age, and plants are for sale too.
An interesting place to visit, but not as good as nearby Winterborne gardens, which has more plant variety and a house to look round – but no play area. (“See review”:http://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review?id=156284)
