Reasons for trip

Devon, UK, is a very beautiful county and renowned as being ideal for holidays for all age groups and tastes, from 5* hotels to places where children can find the best amusements in the country, in my opinion. Torbay is a coastal area made up of three very different resorts that make up Torbay, Torquay (rather more upmarket with a wonderful promenade and hotels and pier) Paignton (ideal for families with a pier and nice sandy beach) and Brixham, a working fishing resort, small, and all three offering good boat trips across the bay. Paignton holds an annual Air Show on Paignton Green, across the road from Paignton beach. Thousands of people come to watch this because anyone interested in older planes especially is in for a treat! The beach has a cinema and restaurant, many large pubs across the road where you can eat in or sit outside and watch the action! There is a Pier with typical pier amusements, penny machines, rides etc. and I believe the donkey rides are back this year too, an old and much loved favourite. There is a zoo at Paignton, and steam trains both to Dartmouth, a wonderful trip out across the ferry, and also steam trains run on the Buckfastleigh line. There are many beautiful villages inland and if you want to shop til you drop Exeter with Buckfast Abbey is about half an hour by road, and the same goes for the large shopping centre at Plymouth. But the air show is spectacular – special guests this weekend are the red arrows – but many much older planes too. So do visit Devon – if not this year – next year!
