We stayed at the Boar's Head for two nights on a B&B basis. Centrally placed between Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon this village hotel makes a great base for exploring these areas and their attractions as well as other parts of the lovely Yorkshire Dales. An additional benefit is that as a guest you get free entry into Ripley Castle with its deer park, walled gardens and grand house. There was snow on the ground when we were there but the gardens are famous for their herbaceous borders and ancient trees. The hotel was very welcoming and friendly with two downstairs lounges including one with a lovely open fire. Our room was comfortable and well equipped with toiletries and refreshments. Meals cooked from local ingredients were available at lunchtime and in the evening in a formal dining room and a more informal Bar/Bistro. Breakfast was generous and delicious with a wide variety to suit all tastes. We stayed on a Special Offer, but have since been emailed other offers by the hotel itself and so will probably return in the summer to see the gardens in full bloom.
