Reasons for trip

So much more than just a Butterfly Farm, this Garden is also dedicated to helping visitors appreciate our not so attractive creepy crawlies! The tour took us through the butterfly gardens where the butterflies we saw included the colourful Blue Morpho (which were slightly tipsy on fermented fruit and firmly kept their wings closed for the photographers!) and the amazing see-through Glasswing Butterfly. We were then introduced to an array of insects and arachnids: a mother scorpion with her babies nestled on her back; the tarantula who, we learnt, really does not wish to harm us; the amazing headlamp beetle; the vast Hercules beetle; to name a few. My favourite part of the tour was getting up close to the leaf-cutter ants, watching them carry leaves, flowers, stems up and across a branch and into their nests The staff are passionate about what they do and the organisation supports the education of young local children by providing binoculars and books from the proceeds of the gift shop. A lovely place to visit, watch and learn.
