Reasons for trip

We went to the Maritime Hotel, Dorset for a few days and nights away. It was situated near Portland Bill and had views of the lighthouse, the sea and Jurrasic coast. The lighthouse was a 5 min walk away and there was good food in the cafe next to it.

The hotel was originally a military establishment, so looks a bit characterless but has been done out beautifully inside and the hosts are very helpful. It has the added benefit that dogs are allowed for small extra cost. The food is good with good choices, so recommend getting the bed, breakfast and dinner option. There are lots of walks near by, but wear sensible footwear.

The Eight Kings pub is short drive away, the food is brilliant and reasonably priced. Another place to go is the sculpture park in one of the disused quarries which was very good and also the heights hotel for a coffee, which had great views of the Jurassic coast.
The hotel has a lift, but also caters for disabled guests.
