Reasons for trip

The Historic Naval Dockyard at Chatham in Kent provides a wonderful day out. It’s on a massive site, so be prepared for quite a lot of walking, but there is so much to see. There are two different ships and a submarine that you can go around, a brand new themed experience, taking in the massive loft area where historic ships were designed, and a fascinating tour around the historic Rope Works, which is still in use today. And there are several other more traditional museum buildings, including some beautiful model ships, and the largest collection of lifeboats in the country. I thought that the admission prices were very reasonable, and there is free covered parking, and plenty of toilets across the large site. The cafe area is brand new and there is a children’s playground too. The only downside is that they close most of the individual attractions well before the advertised closing time.
