Reasons for trip

We went to Gloucester city centre with my cousin and, as she was suffering with a painful knee, we kept to the area around Gloucester Docks. After walking from Gloucester Quays car park, we were ready for a sit down. So, we went to the Barge restaurant located near to the Mariner’s Church where we had lunch. The food was good and it was served with a smile.

It was the day of the Gloucester Goes Retro Festival and the weather was glorious. Within the dock area and in the nearby Gate streets there was an impressive assortment of classic vehicles. People were dressed in a variety of vintage costumes and were clearly enjoying themselves in the sunshine. On the stage was a band performing swing music, which not only started the feet tapping, but really got the dancers swirling to the rock ‘n’ roll.

Once we had found a seat close to the music area, my cousin was able to sit and enjoy some people watching. We strolled around to take pictures – coming back at regular intervals to keep her company. The atmosphere around the festival was friendly and fun. It is definitely an event we would come to in the future.
