Craven Heifer Inn, Grassington Road, Skipton (not to be confused with the pub of same name further down the road towards Colne). The annual ‘woolly’ show Yarndale is held in Skipton on last weekend of September, a must-see if you are interested in anything to do with textiles. As with last year’s show, we stayed 3 nights B&B at Craven Heifer Inn, good value at £180 for two of us and a perfect position for the show ground. It is a big place, only 3* so basic accommodation but clean and warm. It could probably do with a facelift but would still be a bit difficult for wheelchair access to the bedrooms (though not impossible). Access is better for the bar and restaurant which definitely deserves more than a 3* rating. Excellent food is freshly prepared with a quick turnover of diners though no pressure to make you rush the meal. The special of seafood pancakes was such a fantastic taste, it was one of those dishes you wished you had chosen when it arrives for your partner! All dishes good value at around £9-11 each. If you stay, you must book a table earlier in the day, and Sunday lunch carvery was so popular, they were turning people away. It is a perfect location for touring this part of Yorkshire, and the town itself is full of interesting small shops, hidden little streets and alleyways so fascinating to explore. We will stay again next year.
