Reasons for trip

We called here en route to our holiday destination for an hour or two and were so glad we did. It is a National Trust site so parking is free for members. For non-members I think it was £3.50 per car but that is the only charge to pay. From the car park it is a short walk along a pretty path and down 16 steps to the area surrounding Flatford Mill. The whole area is very pretty with a lovely garden with seating, a tea room, visitor centre and a lovely walk by the waterside. There are ample photo opportunities, including lovely views from the bridge and obviously the view made famous in Constable’s painting, The Haywain. All that’s missing is the haywain itself but if you close your eyes slightly you can almost imagine it is still there, stranded in the middle of the water, the black horses’ heads held low as the farmer considers his options. Pick a nice sunny day to visit Flatford and take a slow stroll along the quiet paths. You won’t be disappointed.
