Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – film at Aberystwyth Arts Centre
As the film has been out for a little while, we thought we had missed it so were pleased it is showing this week in Aberystwyth, especially as an afternoon performance. Tickets are reasonable at £5.40 as this included a free tea or coffee in the café.

It is as good as the critics said it was, a strong cast, beautifully acted in stunning surroundings of the island of Guernsey. A fascinating study of how people coped under German occupation during WWII, touchingly poignant, sometimes very sad, with a few funny moments and an endearing love story behind the action. How the title of the society developed made everyone laugh, and clearly the potato peel pie tasted as awful as you thought it might!

It is a beautiful film, well-written and worth going to see. Having never been to Guernsey, there is no doubt this film really makes you want to visit to see the harbours, villages and countryside for yourself.
