Regent’s tours of the Balkans offer something for everyone

Regent offers a variety of tours of the Balkans to suit every traveller’s interests and preferences: from cultural experiences in Croatia to family-friendly adventures in Slovenia.

A perfect start for any holiday to the Balkans is Albania. Members of the first Regent group who travelled to Albania in 1971 would struggle to recognise the country today. Gone are the virtually traffic-free roads, collective farms and churches and mosques converted into sports halls; but the warm Albanian welcome, dramatic scenery, evidence of 400 years of Ottoman occupation and enthralling archaeology, are still the same.

Visitors interested in nature will discover Albania to be a country of wild natural beauty with a rugged and underdeveloped coastline, scenic hillsides clad with olive trees and dark, brooding mountains. Speaking of mountains, the Dinaric Alps and the Pindus Mountains are perfect for hiking.

Those with a penchant for history are drawn to the museum cities of Berat and Gjirokaster, both dominated by towering castles, and can head to Kruja Castle Museum to learn all about the national hero, Skanderbeg. In Butrint, step back in time to discover the 3rd-century B.C. amphitheatre and the ancient city of Apollonia.

Regent’s 8-day Highlights of Albania Group Tour offers first time visitors a fascinating insight into the country and its abundant natural beauty. After arriving in Tirana, the tour loops around the country from the Albanian Riviera, where the landscape transforms from Adriatic to Ionian, to the majestic river valleys, mountains and lakes of the east. Along the way explore flourishing cities full of promise and fascinating museums, UNESCO listed towns peppered with Ottoman architecture and painstakingly preserved Roman archaeological sites.

Guests stay in boutique-style hotels, enjoy delicious food and fall in love with a land of unspoilt countryside and little visited historical gems. This is a small group tour that operates with a minimum of 8 persons/maximum of 16.

8-day Highlights of Albania Group Tour from £1740pp with return flights. Single supplement of £215. Departure dates: 5-12 June and 9-16 September 2024.
