The downside is that, in general, solo travellers are going to pay 80% of the couples price so the pressure is on to eat and drink aplenty! Solo cabins are slightly narrower than the double ones and if you are a larger person it can be awkward to get around the end of the bed as the space between it and the wall is pretty slim. However, you still get a balcony, a large bed and good service.
There are solo get togethers for those that need it but no longer any resident dance partners which may be important for some guests.
General service is very good – the staff are always ready to help people who need it.
Food is good (not exceptional) and the all included drinks list is comprehensive.
The spa treatments are very expensive and it’s a shame to see the therapists standing around for hours as people are too savvy to pay the costs of treatments they can get for half the price at home.
The included excursions are just short coach trips but none the less pleasant.
Nice touches like an umbrella and binoculars in every cabin and free bottles of water for excursions are good but of course have been factored in to the high cost of Saga cruises.
As has the taxi service to and from the port.
So – if you are on your own, don’t be afraid to give Saga cruises a try if it’s affordable for you.
