Julie, our Retail Manager, recently had the opportunity to experience a shakedown cruise on Oceania’s brand-new ship, Allura. These pre-inaugural cruises allow the ship to test its engines and give the crew a chance to perfect their service before welcoming paying guests. Having previously spent just a day on an Oceania ship, Julie was excited to fully experience the luxury and elegance for which the line is renowned.
Boarding in Genoa, Italy, she was immediately impressed by the stunning ship and the warm welcome from the captain and crew. Julie was escorted to her beautifully appointed suite, complete with her luggage already in place and a chilled bottle of fizz waiting on the balcony. The suite featured thoughtfully designed interiors, a spacious bathroom, and the most comfortable beds she has experienced at sea.
Over five days, the cruise journeyed along the Italian coast, with a stop in Split, Croatia. Julie enjoyed the ship’s renowned dining experiences, included in every Oceania cruise, from the elegant Grand Dining Room to the gourmet specialty restaurants. Toscana, an Italian-themed restaurant, stood out for its incredible selection of dishes, desserts, breads, olive oils, and balsamic vinegars – not to mention the best tiramisu she has ever had, on land or at sea.
One highlight was a lavish celebration brunch in the Grand Dining Room, featuring oysters, crab claws, lobster tails, caviar, live cooking stations, and an array of pastries and tarts, all paired with Champagne or fine wine.
The ship itself impressed with its sleek, elegant design, multiple lounges, and onboard theatre offering different shows each night. Daytime relaxation included a well-sized pool flanked by hot tubs, sun beds with thick mattresses, and a tranquil spa area complete with wave beds and additional hot tubs.
Julie singled out two standout aspects of the cruise: the exceptional food and the attentive, warm service from the entire crew. Every meal, from buffet to à la carte, was beautifully presented and delicious. The service was consistently five-star, with crew members remembering individual preferences and going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable, enjoyable experience.
Overall, the shakedown cruise left Julie thoroughly impressed. She returned inspired and ready to recommend Oceania Cruises to customers seeking small-ship luxury, a wide choice of included dining options, and award-winning itineraries.
