We were looking for a place for a sit down after doing a bit of sightseeing in the Albert Dock area of Liverpool.
We noticed this establishment Ziferblat which had a notice outside indicating “Everything is free inside; except for the time you spend.” So we were intrigued. The cost was 8p per minute. Inside you could help yourself to as much soup, snacks, beverages or cakes that you wanted. So we had a couple of mugs of tea and several small cakes each.
It was very relaxing with comfy seats and gentle music. There was free Wi-Fi if required and we noticed several people catching up on their mobile phones. There was also artwork for sale, which was interesting to me as my daughter is an artist.
We found out that the idea started in Russia the translation being “watchface”. It is a non-profit making business, so you can also make donations or volunteer.
On “clocking out” we were given a loyalty card – so we will probably return another day.
