We stayed in Ambleside recently. Combining two of my favourite things – a film and food – was a nice counterpoint to a hard day on the Lake District’s magical, but challenging fells.
Zeffirellis is an independent cinema, in the centre of this atmospheric Lakeland town, and also an excellent vegetarian restaurant. It also has a sister place – Fellinis – just a few minutes stroll away….we ate at the former and watched the movie “45 Years” at the latter.
The food was original and of a good quality, and the film was brilliantly acted by Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay. Possibly not the best choice to celebrate our own wedding anniversary, but Gill and I are still together a few weeks later!
There’s also a cafe, bar and occasional late night jazz music at the Zeffirellis venue, so a real one-stop destination if you happen to be in this beautiful part of the country.
The Movie Deal – at just under £20 for 2 courses and the movie ticket – is show-stoppingly good value/
