We were searching for last minute hotel or B&B accommodation in St Davids on the Pembrokeshire coast when we stumbled upon Yr Hafan, located one and a half miles from the little port of Porthgain. It was fantastic! A tastefully furnished bedroom with ensuite shower room/WC, glorious sea view and – virtually – its own patio. Unusually for a B&B, there was a large guest lounge to add to our comfort. The hosts, Jeff and Alison, bent over backwards to make us feel welcome, even giving us a lift down to Porthgain in the evenings so that we could enjoy dinner at The Shed or The Sloop Inn. And he picked us up again afterwards, so no need to ration our wine intake. The breakfasts were excellent, with probably the best fresh fruit salad I've had anywhere, plus a good choice of menu items. Of particular note were the sausages, sourced from a local farmer. Ramblers take note – Yr Hafan is a great choice for a walking holiday, as it's just off the Pembrokeshire coastal path. Sadly – or happily! – we'd picked too hot a week for such energetic pursuits. I wouldn't hesitate to make a return visit.
