We stayed one night at Wyck Hill House Hotel on a dinner, bed and breakfast break. The hotel consists of an old manor house with a more modern extension (which matches the original house well) with other rooms and a spa in the orangery and coach house. We stayed in a “garden room” which was in the extension and was a spacious, corner bedroom on the ground floor with a well equipped modern bathroom. Coffee, biscuits and tea were provided in the room as well as complimentary wifi.
The hotel is set in extensive grounds with lovely views over the Cotswolds. The whole reception, bar, library area has a very pleasant old fashioned and comfortable feel. We drank our complimentary glasses of “fizz” in the bar but if it had been slightly warmer could have sat outside looking at the view. The included dinner was from a table d’hôte menu – 3 choices for each course. We could have paid an extra £10 for the à la carte but there were several things on the standard menu that appealed to us and we were not disappointed – the meal was excellent. There were several wines between £20 and £30 though also some very expensive ones.
Breakfast was also excellent – all you could wish for and freshly cooked to order. Meals were eaten in a conservatory extension overlooking the Cotswolds. My only complaint was that we did not feel that the music was necessary – it spoiled the otherwise tranquil feeling.
Although the staff seemed very busy they were all very friendly and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for attention. All in all an excellent stay in a hotel very conveniently situated for Stow-in-the-Wold etc and also good value if you have an inclusive break as we did.
