Personal / family celebration

We stayed here for 10 nights prior to our return cruise back from Barbados to Southampton (this was cancelled due to coronavirus but that is another story). We had never done anything like this before as it was our golden wedding and we had saved hard for this special holiday. Unfortunately my health has taken a turn for the worse and I am not as mobile as I used to be, and to make matters worse I hurt my back just prior to the holiday so I was anxious about how I would cope. I need not have worried. The aparthotel was very conveniently placed, and we were given a ground floor apartment. It was very easy to get around the island, local buses and taxis stopped whenever you held out your hand and every journey was 3,5 Barbados dollars (about £1.50). The accommodation was very clean and the pool was lovely. Worthing Court is just a 5 minute walk to the beach, and I could just about manage this so that was fine. We used the buses to go further afield and also rented a car so we could explore the whole island ourselves and this was organised by the hotel and was an easy process. There is an onsite restaurant but due to the time of year and the fact that everywhere was very quiet (this was a week or so before lockdown) the restaurant just served breakfast and lunches. Every Friday and Tuesday evenings there is entertainment and food. The entertainment was first class with live music and dancing, and was a highlight. The rooms were cleaned daily, the staff were extremely friendly, particularly the restaurant manager who looked after us so well as towards the end of the holiday everyone was getting anxious about the imminent lockdown. On the last evening there were only 6 guests remaining and Joy cooked us all a meal for the evening even though she was not supposed to be working. We would not hesitate to return, we absolutely loved it and appreciated the friendly yet professional service, the fabulous beaches but most of all we will remember the wonderful smiling friendly people of Barbados.

Instead of flying home we were meant to be boarding a repositioning cruise from Barbados to Southampton, visitng Caribbean islands on the way. It was very frustrating and sad to see the ship in dock but unable to board her. However, Hayes Travel Agents, who arranged our holiday organised a flight home for us and indeed we were on one of the last flights off the island.
