Personal / family celebration

Arriving at Rosslare from Fishguard, our Stenna ferry docked at 6 pm in the evening. We had pre-booked a B&B at Wexford for one night as it was within reasonable travel distance. Just as well really as what should have been a short journey turned out to be quite a long one. A section of road from Drinagh to Ballykilliane was being replaced, causing huge tailbacks. It would have been a good idea if the ferry company had pre warned travellers to enable them to make a possible detour to avoid long delays.

We finally arrived at Woodview and were welcomed by Graham and Mary, our hosts. It was a modern house within a small group of similar dwellings in a quiet, off the road area with ample parking.

We had a large ground floor room with an en-suite bathroom – even a silky flowered bathrobe and hat! There were complimentary toiletries and hair dryer as well as tea facilities and a TV. Free Wi-Fi was available.

As it was just about 5 minutes drive into Wexford, we decided to go and find an evening meal. Plenty of places to choose from and we found an amazing Italian place called Bacco Trattoria, in the main street. Food was excellent.

After our long road journey – 6 hour drive to Fishguard, then a three and half hour ferry crossing, we were glad to finally get back to Woodview for a good night’s sleep.

We had breakfast at 8.30 in a large, open plan, kitchen and dining area. It was a lovely clean and spacious area, but would have been more private if the kitchen had been separated off. Good selection of cereals, bread, yoghurt and fruit juice. We had a cooked breakfast but there was an alternative, continental breakfast, if preferred.

We had a nice chat with Graham and Mary before leaving and were told an interesting story of a harp that was displayed in the dining area. It belonged to an American lady called Virginia (70) who had stayed with them. Virginia loved restoring places and was currently involved with such an exercise in a village called Inistioge where we later visited (another review)!

Graham and Mary had a local honey they provided for their breakfasts and Virginia asked if they could get hold of some to sell in her shop.

We eventually took our leave, heading for Kilkenny and a family reunion get together.

Woodview was a pleasant place to stay, with friendly, welcoming hosts.
