Reasons for trip

We visited with my parents who are nearly 90 years old. We booked a mobility scooter beforehand for my Dad. The staff were very helpful giving advice before the visit. On arrival there are disabled parking spaces near the entrance and toilets including a disabled one. The scooter was brought to us, and Dad was gown how to use it by a friendly host. The scooter does not travel too well on the gravelled areas of the outside exhibits, but is fine on the paths and indoors. There are informative plaques on the outside exhibits, which take about 20 minutes or so to walk round. The main exhibits are inside the cutter building which is wheelchair / scooter accessible on both floors. There is a cafe and toilets in the building. There is a shop, an exhibition of mining through the ages, miners art and banners and archives for those who wish to study Northumbrian history. The museum takes easily 2 hours to look round and we could have stayed longer. Next time, we will plan for longer. This was very well laid out and informative. We enjoyed the visit, which would also be suitable for children. The staff are friendly, and committed to making the site accessible to all.
