Reasons for trip

We have holidayed in Florida over a dozen times. We don’t usually spend a lot of time in Orlando and prefer the Gulf Coast cities of Sarasota,Fort Myers and Naples. A few weeks ago we spent 5 nights in Sarasota and 10 nights in Orlando my daughter and her husband wanted some tome at the theme parks! My wife and I I are always looking for interesting places to visit and we found an article about Winter Park in a magazine.

A 25 minute drive north East on the “4” from International Drive, just 5 minutes north of downtown Orlando’s skyscrapers, you can visit this lovely lakeside community. We visited Winter Park twice on our holiday. It is one of the original small towns in Florida with a thriving town centre full of small boutiques, cafes and bars. A place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the rest of Orlando.

We took a scenic boat tour which visited 3 of the lakes and a knowledgeable guide told us the history of the people who made Winter Park their home in the late 1800s. Winter Park has a University campus which is rated as the prettiest and one of the most expensive in the USA. There are several museums and galleries and lovely lakeside drives and walks. The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens are well worth a visit.

If you don’t want to drive Orlando’s Sunrail train takes 25 minutes to whisk you from Sandlake road to Winter Park station.

We hope to add Winter Park to our itinerary and stay for a few days the next time we travel to Florida.
