This caravan park is set up on the clifftops above Whitby. The exact location is Saltwick Bay. It is situated behind the famous Abbey. My husband and myself had walked through it on two previous occasions, as it is on the Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay leg The Cleveland Way.
We had thought it looked attractive and peaceful so at the end of September we spent 4 nights there. We booked a deluxe caravan and weren’t disappointed. It was nicely escorted with 2 bedroom, a main bathroom and a small en- suite toilet. There was a private decked area with a table and chairs, although we didn’t use it due to heavy winds. These winds were fierce at night as we lay in bed and we were half waiting to be blown away! However we are still here and all the caravans – static and tourers were intact.
There is a shop and club house on site. It was a quiet week but there were enough people in the bar to provide atmosphere. All staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly.
It was about a 30 minutes walk into Whitby along the coastal path, which we enjoyed. After all any exercise helped work off the excess calories of the fabulous fish and chips the town has to offer.
We did get a taxi back a couple of nights – just a short ride away.
The park is in Salt wick Bay which is a private bay and beach for the park. It is reached by a step descent and even stepper ascent but well worth the effort!
It is a quiet site and I don’t think it would be noisy or too busy even in high season. We loved it and hope to stay again.
