Weymouth is a charming seaside resort on the Dorset coast. We stayed in an Airbnb accommodation with a view of the miles of clean golden sandy beach. The town also has an attractive harbour filled with small boats and yachts.
The resort first became popular in Georgian times after King George 111 regularly stayed there because of the benefits of the sea bathing as cure for his ailments. His statue stands proudly in the centre of the esplanade alongside a replica of his bathing machine.
As well as the usual seaside attractions, there are a number of stunning places to visit with a wealth of history. There is Nothe Fort, Sandsfoot Castle, the Sea Life centre and Monkey World. The streets are lined with lots of independent shops. We found many different venues to eat and drink particularly surrounding the Brewers Quay harbour.
Weymouth is also a good base for exploring the surrounding area by rail or bus. In fact the perfect Engliish holiday spot.
