Reasons for trip

Managed by English Heritage, Wenlock Priory is close to home but remains a delightful venue for a day out for adults with or without children. We visited this week with our grandchildren aged 2 and 4 and I’d booked our arrival slot in advance. We were able to explore the tranquil remains of this medieval priory with the children and talk to them about its past. We were fortunate to have the ruins to ourselves and the children could run, climb, discover nooks and crannies, collect sticks, seek out tiny flowers, medieval tiles and most importantly laugh.

We were welcomed by a member of staff and adhered to current visiting guidelines. I was pleased and relieved to find that the toilets were open and clean. We look forward to visiting the small shop when it opens up again in the near future. Access from reception to the priory was suitable for small children, pushchairs and mobility vehicles.

“Wenlock Priory and the visitor Reception are easily accessible by a ramp. All parts of priory and gardens accessible via compacted gravel paths and smooth grass” – https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/wenlock-priory/

We took our sticks to the famous Ironbridge, just a short drive away and played Pooh sticks until our tummies rumbled and then it was picnic time.
