Although I’m more used to travelling abroad, I thought I would just say what a varied and enjoyable two weeks we’ve just spent in WALES.
We stayed the first week at the well equipped Valley View Cottage at The Neuadd near Crickhowell. It was a sweet cottage with views to die for, lambs in the field and a canal down the hill for evening strolls. We travelled around the area, walked, and took a 2.5hr trip on the narrowboat “Dragonfly” from Brecon, passing through locks and over a small aqueduct. On a wet day we bravely ventured to the completely free “Big Pit” where we donned helmets and belts with batteries attached, to descend in the “cage” for an interesting mine tour about modern and old times.
Our second week was spent at the cute cottage 4 Rogeston Cottages near Broadhaven on the Pembrokeshire coast. Whilst not having views, this cottage was set in beautiful gardens with bluebells and roses almost climbing in the window. We appreciated the underfloor heating in the bathroom, plus the big dishwasher. We walked little sections of the coastal path and visited delightful beaches plus the charming Cathedral and city of St Davids. The highlight ( and main reason for choosing this area) was a boat trip for a day on Skomer Island to see and photograph the beautiful puffins. They were amazingly tolerant of visitors and very photogenic!
All in all, I doubt if we would have had such a varied holiday, even on the various cruises etc we’ve been on – so don’t forget to holiday at home sometimes, folks!
