Never having visited the historic sites in Rome before, we jumped at an offer of 3 nights at the Welcome Piram Hotel promoted on Travelzoo. The hotel was well situated near the main railway station, the airport shuttle bus stop and most of the major tourist sites. The deal was pretty much as described. Friendly and helpful staff, a touch of elegance and a comfortable newly decorated room although it could be a trifle noisy early in the morning in our side room with deliveries and collections from neighbouring hotels. The inclusive breakfast was good and our two evening dinners in the hotel restaurant were also most acceptable. Possibly not a 4* hotel as free internet is limited as are the leisure facilities (rooftop jacuzzi closed in the winter months.) Overall, good value though.
Silver surfers should note that admission to most of the important sites and museums is free to EU citizens 65+. Also the Vatican is free on the last Sunday of each month! Rome is a must-see destination if you've not done it before.
